I have a question. With awakening, and cessation of self, can you sort of tell, which Suttas are relevant, and which are potentially irrelevant to the path towards Nibbana?

Tai Zee Kin hmm answering this Q I will easily get bombed for it for being “arrogant” lol but anyway honestly just from my own xp and sharing and not authoritative.. (Damn long disclaimer lol)
    Insight is powerful
Once a practitioner have anatta insight, the Pali canon makes sense, don’t need to read all, the experience will teach
The satipathanna sutta is their state 24/7
The Buddha is teaching us to fake it till you make it. Transform the mind entirely
The sutta describes their experiences and one can understand the Buddha’s intent of teaching those suttas very easily.. which cannot be done without insight
If the practitioner directly experience emptiness
The Mahayana Sutta like heart sutra literally come alive, as it will describe their experience
It will feel intimate and not intellectual.
    Even cryptic Dogen is intimate.
And if someone describe your state just in a few words, you will know immediately.. so u will be able to know who can teach u.. who understand the subtle dharma.. etc
It’s like someone describe to you how tough being a lawyer is, and you go into that space and there’s an intimate transmission no one else could understnd if they are not a lawyer.. sthg like that.
    The sutta feels that way
    Hence I always feel that
    Reading though important
    Practising is key..

  • Yin Ling thank you 🙏🙏🙏

"Fake it till you make it" 😂
So, is the suttas a description or a prescription?

William Lim haha imo it’s Both.
    Abit like dogen says practise-enlightenment
    The practise is enlightenment
    The enlightenment is practise.
Satipathanna also practise enlightenment in my opinion
Buddha taught from awakened perspective. He only teach after he woke up not like ppl now no insight also teach everyone also can teach so the buddhas intent can be lost in teachings.
Good to follow awakened teachers like thich nhat hant so won’t deviate.
But there’s no dissonance lah imo

  • Yin Ling i can relate to Buddha's fake it till make it part. Next is to intensify practices

Tai Zee Kin hahaha it’s my words not Buddha’s words ok.
But it’s very clear actually once someone gets it
He is describing what he feels
    The jhanas also
It will be shocking bec it is exactly described
One will know exactly what is
    Piti
    Sukha
    Equanimity
    Formless realms…
All is his experience and we can experience similarly
Ppl memorise it but don’t have direct experience which is sad.
Happy practising ok! Not too intense later susah pulak

Some beings are born to hold the role and responsibility of a teacher, most of us are just normal practitioners (maybe we’re here to make this world a better place?)
Very happy and grateful to be born a native Vietnamese so I can understand and feel all of Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings in his mother tongue, no need to read English books as translated versions haha
