This is me taking a few minutes to “meditate” when I’m having a very busy day. I don’t meditate like I did before but I meditate almost all the time.
I remember a few months back, I was busy with some work project, my teacher gave me instructions to sit in my car 20 mins to “get into awakened awareness” and she introduced to me the meditstion of doing nothing by Chan master sheng yen.
She advised me to never allow awareness to lapse into ordinary mind which is operating from a small self for too long, at that time I don’t have no-self insight.. I’m grateful she made me do that. She wanted me to sit day and night one hour each for the momentum to carry on. She was strict and didn’t indulge me.
I still rmb her advice. So I meditate whenever I can.
But meditstion is easier now because once the self filter is gone with no self insight one is left with only the mind and nothing else apart from that. Just mind all over. Similar nature, empty clarity all over. So mindfulness is the only thing left, I also finally understood when she says “I don’t meditate like you but I meditate all the time, you will understand soon”.
The path is so drastically different at each stage and a teacher’s job is not that simple. I had an amazing one who told me my own mind is more intelligent than my self and does not let me delude myself easily with advise like “no need to practise”.

Mr./Ms. YEH
thank you Yin Ling
Your post brought up a question: what do you mean to never allow awareness to lapse into ordinary mind?
If
I’m sitting in the office, I often keep the attention in the hearing or
seeing or the body sensation. Is such an awareness meant? Or could you
give me an example what exactly is meant by this?
Very grateful

It is hard for me to explain but
At
that point I already had the insight of wide open awareness.. I
identify with a big Self. I had the insight of “all is mind”, and when I
work and get stressed up it will fall back into the ordinary self - how
normal ppl perceive the world, a person stuck in the head, carried away
by thoughts emotions etc
She wanted me to “stop” and get back to where I was.. a mid path to full awakening now looking back.

Yin Ling
ok, a totally different insight.

I’m still stuck in the head

Yin Ling
so you were doing different practise and/or contemplation at different
stages of awakening? Care to give a summary of your practise?
Yin Ling
Hmm yeah actually depending on what was my obstacle at that point so I don’t quite rmb already tbh . So many practises
That was why they call it “pragmatic dharma “ imo training individuals based on their conditions and not one size fit all.
I
had a lot of problems with thoughts and emotions at one point for many
months so there was a lot of work on that with many many techniques.
Poor teacher also lah I didn’t give her an easy time
