AI text to speech tech is pretty good now. Probably soon I can generate a good audiobook out of AtR practice guide

Peyman ZS actually AI voice is surprisingly good. Not creepy at all and you may not even tell that its AI. It is that good these days

Soh Wei Yu better to get the additional transmission of the voice of someone who has the experience of what is being spoken. Maybe someday they can program this into AI somehow !

Soh Wei Yu I think it is inevitable. When the mind awakens there is a corresponding release of tension in the body tissues. This effects the tone and expression of the voice (how could it not). Otherwise it's intellectual masturbation. Nothing to do with magic.....

Soh Wei Yu at 6 am they both sound creepy 😂. I did hear one the other day on the phone and you’re right it has gotten much better, but I noticed it about a sentence in and then couldn’t “unhear it” if you know what I mean. It shows up on the second syllable on a lot of words, listen to the transition. And the ending of words.

If you think all awakened beings speak in some trance inducing tone etc that is sort of stereotyping awakened beings. They can also speak in very forceful, loud, animated way and they can still be fully liberated. It does not need to follow some pre defined patterns. Awakened and liberated beings come in all shapes and forms and behaviours. As Acarya Malcolm Smith said in a talk, you simply cannot tell who is a Buddha
Even people couldn’t tell Buddha was a Buddha. There was people who mistook him as just another ordinary monk. This is stated in the suttas

Soh Wei Yu I agree. It's not about a trance state. But if the mind is free it effects the body, even if there is still more work to do in the body. The absence of fixation does not mean that the expression can no longer be forceful, loud or animated. Or predefined. Or even necessarily detectable. But that not mean that the physical is not effected.

Soh Wei Yu what would the point of awakening be if it did not have an effect on your state of mind ? The body is not independent of this. The voice is not independent of the body.

I’ve met the guy who did the MCTB audiobook - very serious practitioner, and a nice guy too. He’s also doing the audiobook of Leigh Brasington’s Right Concentration. More interesting to talk to than an AI too 😉
