Sim Pern Chong: A Spiritual Journey, Dream Work, and “Rojakism”
A personal record of awakening, dreams, changing views, unusual experiences, and a spiritual path that refuses to fit neatly inside one framework.
Why I am sharing this
My friend Sim Pern Chong, also known in earlier online discussions as Longchen or Simpo, has organised and documented his spiritual journey and present understanding into a new 84-page compilation. He is doing this partly because the web-hosting service for his old site will soon remove it, and I think the material is worth preserving.
Sim himself describes the work with some humour as “not fully about Buddhism type awakening” but more a kind of “Rojakism” of the process he went through. That is an apt description. The PDF moves from awakening and meditation into dream work, karmic-imprint work, a larger-consciousness framework, his “New Earth” material, chronological dream or vision transmissions, and accounts of unusual or otherworldly experiences.
John Tan once described Simpo (Longchen) as “a very insightful and sincere practitioner.” He also spoke highly of the quality of Sim’s writings on non-duality. I agree. Sim is an unusually insightful practitioner, and over the years I have found many of his observations on spiritual experience, non-duality, no-self, emptiness, and the changing phases of practice interesting and valuable.

The organising idea: “horizontal” and “vertical” insights
Horizontal insights
Sim uses this term for insights into the nature of reality and experience accessible from the human contemplative perspective. Elsewhere in the PDF he gives examples such as I AM, non-duality, no-self, and emptiness.
Vertical insights
He uses this term for experiences that, in his framework, extend beyond ordinary human perception—for example access to what he calls a Higher or Larger Consciousness Structure, other lifetimes, dreams, visions, non-linear time, and other dimensions of experience.
This horizontal/vertical distinction explains much of the book’s “Rojakism.” Sim is not trying to reduce everything to one Buddhist map. He is combining the AtR-type progression of insight with a much broader experiential and cosmological framework of his own.

Dream or vision transmissions that Sim dates to 2001, 2002, 2012, 2024, and 2026—including a “return to source” transmission, the rainbow snow-leopard dream, a lucid-dream lecture involving Kṣitigarbha, and later experiences he associates with non-linear time and the New Earth framework.
Chapter Seven · Otherworldly Encounters (pp. 78–84)
Accounts Sim interprets as encounters with a deceased woman, alien-human hybrids, a gateway to a Chinese netherworld, a deity in a lucid dream, and a possible higher-dimensional or “Arcturian” being. These are presented as his own experiential records and interpretations.
Why Chapter Three may be especially interesting to AtR readers
One of the clearest connections with Awakening to Reality appears in Chapter Two, where Sim writes that AtR materials are excellent for paving the way to anatta (no-self) and expresses gratitude to John Tan for pointing out when he was stuck at the I AM stage. At the same time, Sim explains that his own path became a hybrid: he combines AtR-type insight work with what he calls larger-consciousness work.
Chapter Three then lays out his own progression explicitly. He presents I AM Presence or Eternal Witness first, followed by non-duality, and then no-self, which he calls the matured stage of non-duality. He says his no-self insight occurred while walking, when “I am walking” gave way to simply walking with no separate “I.” From there he describes further movement into emptiness, non-arising, non-linear time, dimensionlessness, and related investigations.
This is one reason Sim’s record is useful. It does not freeze his earliest experience into his final view. You can see an actual practitioner’s interpretation changing as further insights and experiences accumulate.
How I suggest reading it
I would read this primarily as a spiritual autobiography and field record—the record of an intelligent and sincere practitioner’s long investigation—rather than as a textbook whose every proposition must be accepted.
Some parts overlap closely with subjects discussed on Awakening to Reality, especially I AM, non-duality, anatta, emptiness, non-arising, and the loosening of identification. Other parts move far outside the usual AtR framework. That difference is worth preserving rather than editing away.
In fact, this is what makes the compilation interesting to me. It preserves the actual contours of a person’s path: breakthroughs, experiments, changing views, dreams, unusual experiences, hypotheses, errors that may later be revised, and attempts to make sense of all of it. Sim himself repeatedly presents parts of the work as his current understanding rather than final truth.
For me, the important point is not that a reader must accept every part of Sim’s synthesis. It is that Sim has spent decades seriously looking into experience, and he has been willing to revise his understanding as his practice developed. That kind of record is worth preserving.
